Anime 2030 Game Log W2

Week 2 – Day 1

Monday morning Anya finds Sainen before class starts and confronts him about how he is not a team player. He says “The club isn’t really a team, yet” She argues “If everyone acts like you just did, we will never become a team.” To settle the matter she challenges him to a target shoot at the range after school.

As the day goes on, the rumor about the challenge circulates. By the time Anya and Sainen arrive at the range, there is quite a crowd gathered to watch. A lot of guys are there to cheer for the tall blond Amazon. ( Although she does not know it yet, Anya has a fan club ) The contest is judged by the Gun Club’s VP. It is close but the match goes to Anya.

Meanwhile Terra is alone in the Occult club room, wondering where everyone is. Just as she is about to go home, the group arrives. They are in high spirits and plan to go to the local mall. Terra thinks it’s a great idea for the group to get to know each other better, but she has work to do.

At the mall everyone has fun, window shopping and playing games in the arcade. It is the first time for both Anya and Sainen being in a mall. Anya coming from a small rural Canadian village has no real experience with giant shopping centers. Sainen on the other hand had been living under a monastery and never had cause to visit a mall.

As the group was walking to the food court, it happened. The attempted assassination of Ellsa “Foxtrot” Kumiyagi – captain of the school’s Red Team in paintball. A man with a pistol tried to shoot her in the back of the head, as another man with an SMG backed him up. Things got very messy, very fast.

Ellsa narrowly avoided getting her head blown off, then returned fire from the floor.

Anya drew her pistol and tried to disarm the gun-man, but the crowd of people was just starting to react. Their erratic movements ruined her shot.

Sainen took a second to coordinate with his sidekick Somni. The monk would jump around healing people as needed. Sainen would try to take down a bad guy with a good old flying tackle. ( The high-tech suit he had on under his school clothes, gave him an edge in combat but it was no true battle-suit )

Kimi and Shine, with no real fighting skills, did the smart thing and ran for a hiding spot.

Aoki used one of her powers to send a chair flying at the guy with the SMG.

Hadohi ducked under a table and pulled out her phone, to start recording the fight.

Most of the bad guys were killed by Ellsa, who took head shots.

Anya shot one of the gun-men several times, but he did not go down thanks to his armor.

Hadohi first tried to burn one guy with her powers, then after setting a wall on fire, she used her ice ability to freeze him.

Kimi and Shine noticed that there were suspicious looking men covering the exits, as they ran into one of the shops to hide. The entire event was starting to look like a very well organized hit.

Sainen scuffled with and knocked out the frozen gun-man. Who turned out to be the only bad guy captured alive in the entire event.

Aoki having spotted a suspicious guy in the crowd of terrified by standers; hit him with a chair. She then tied him up, once all the shooting had stopped. ( However the police let him go because there was no connection found between him and the incident – he seemed to them to be just another innocent by-stander. )

The entire fight only took about 30 seconds, but it seemed a lot longer. The mall security guards, who were armed only with batons and tazer-guns, started reacting after the first few shots, but they quickly dove for cover after a burst of auto-fire was sent in their direction. The other security guards, on the upper levels, did not enter into the situation until the fighting was all done.

The police arrived several minutes after everything was over and the heroes had run off. Sainen had asked Ed to delete the security camera footage of the event. But there were still dozens of eye witnesses who saw everything happen.

Ellsa stayed behind to talk with the police, because she was already well known to them and because she had been the real target of the attack. She strongly suspected that the gun-men were from the Ren-Raku Corporation.

Week 2 – Day 2

During home room, our heroes are told that they must report to the Principal’s office as soon as the lunch brake starts. The teacher makes no mention about yesterday’s mall madness, but the rumors are flying.

Principle Ozen demands to know exactly what happened at the mall. He does not tell the students how much he actually knows about the events. He lets them explain things as if he knew none of the details. For the most part Sainen does the talking.

After a brief lecture on responsibility, the Principle assigns the group to detention that afternoon. The teacher in charge of the afterschool discipline for the group is of course Miss Saim, the chief weapons instructor.

Unlike some schools where detention is a matter of sitting quietly and counting out the time until freedom, at OEAOE the time is put to more constructive use. In this case, Miss Saim reviews the entire battle, step by step, on a map of the mall. She points out in brutal honesty what the group did right and what they did wrong.

“Everything is a learning experience, but when you are using live ammo in a crowd of civilians, you can’t afford to make mistakes.” She stresses the point several times.

Game Log - first week

Week 1 – Day 3

It is suggested that the Occult Club look into the case of the missing antique armor of the mythical spirit warrior Akroma, which was stolen from the museum 5 weeks ago. An item that is very much linked to Kimi – although she does not say anything about it.

After school, Anya and Aoki, along with her friend Takaki ‘the street fighter’ go to central Osaka to fish for info. They visit one of Aoki’s contacts, a shady dealer in art. She is given the names of a few local men, sort of collectors who would very much want that kind of mystical ancient armor.

At the same time Kimi, Sainen and Somni go to her Shinto shrine, which is not far from the school, to talk with the master about the armor. He tells them about the history of it, and how it is considered magical. He does not bring up how Kimi is connected to it.

When Aoki calls Sainen to tell him about the names she got, he has Ed ( the computer in his head ) run a background search on them. At the same time Ed was running a search for any of the descendants of the original owner of the armor. Although there were many holes in the records, the search provided a 78% accurate list of 13 names, one of them having been reported as kidnapped a week ago.

The group assembles for diner at a fast food restaurant and talks quietly about the case. They plan to visit the missing woman’s apartment and get some personal object, which can be used in a location spell. As they plot, a fellow student sitting nearby overhears the conversation and volunteers to get what they need. ( she is a telleporter )

Week 1 – Day 4

The Occult Club meets before class so that Terra can perform the spell. She gets a general sense that the woman is many miles to the east in a house near the sea, and that she is confined but not in any immediate danger. Not a resounding success, but its something to go on.

During class Sainen has Ed run a search to see if any of the collectors of mystic art, the names Aoki found, own property ‘many miles to the east’. A few do, including a nice out of the way house on the coast.

At lunch the group talks about going out the house and investigating. However Terra thinks that more evidence is needed. She will tell Professor Snape of their findings and ask him to do a spell, to confirm the theory of the missing woman’s location. Most of the group nods and accepts the idea of being cautious. But Anya and Sainen both want to raid the place that very night.

Week 1 - Day 5

Professor Snape confirms that the woman is at the sea side house. He also points out that the police will be useless; they don’t believe in magic and will not raid a respectable business man’s home on an anonymous tip. So the matter is left to the Occult Club.

The group plans a late night raid. They also plan a cover story, a sleepover at Anya’s place. Her dad, Ivan was told about the rescue mission and he offered some guns and armor to help. But he was reluctant to lend Anya the car. In the end of course he passed her the key.

While most of the group drove out to the coast after midnight, Sainen and Somni got there ahead of them ( using some ultra tech flying power armor ) Sainen had his own plan. He did not trust that the kids were able to pull off a job like this. With a thousand years under his belt, he had confidence in his own skills and in the tech he was using. On the other hand his classmates were just kids, it was likely they would screw up and maybe get hurt.

So Sainen snuck into the house under invisibility mode, while Somni hid in the bushes nearby ready to provide backup. Although the stealth system made him invisible ( almost impossible to see ) it did nothing to hide footprints. So the alert was sounded when one of the guards on patrol found tracks in the garden. Of course finding an invisible man inside a house was not easy.

Searching the house for the missing woman took a long time, because the secret door to the sub-basement was well hidden. Eventually Sainen found her, shot her with a sleep dart, and smuggled her out, in a stealth cloth tarp. Mission success.

But no armor was found, so as Somni did first aid to see how the woman was, Sainen went back into the house. This time he conducted a search of the upper level, where he confronted the business man – mage – collector of mystic art. The man was waiting for something to happen, fully dressed, relaxing in bed listening to low volume classical music. Sainen seemed to get the drop on him, firing two sleeping darts at the man. What should have been a clear hit turned out to be a miss. Then the man tossed some sort of magic flash-bang. With all his senses down, Sainen backed up in a defensive posture and stood ready for an attack. But it never came. The mage grabbed a suitcase, containing the armor, and fled down to the garage and off into the night.

When Sainen regained his senses he searched the house, expecting the mage to be hiding with a room full of guards. Only when he was sure that his target was gone, did he depart.

The other group members had reached the rendezvous point by about this time. Except for Terra who had called to say that her family was not letting her out that night. They were not surprised when Sainen and Somni showed up a few minutes late. They were surprised when they learned that the raid had already happened and the girl was rescued. Anya was actually very upset about Sainen going in alone; grand standing with out the team even knowing what he was up to.

After some debate over what to do, they agreed to drop the girl off at the small local police station, anonymously. Then go home to Anya’s place for the planned sleep over. Sainen however was not about to let the matter rest.

He flew back to Osaka, broke into the mage’s apartment, found no one there, and then went to the man’s office building. He searched the building from top to bottom before finding the basement “security only” room. Sainen got the suitcase and got out. He left two guards drugged asleep and the mage sleeping normally.

As dawn was braking he dropped off the suitcase full of ancient armor at Ivan’s gun shop. Now the mission was done.

Space History Lesson

Anime 2030 – History lesson on space exploration.

Modern Space Colonization

After the alien ship crashed on a small Pacific island in 2015, many nations took a serious interest in space. Those who already had working space programs soon doubled their efforts, but it was the Organization of Latin American States, who made the most astounding progress. From nothing in 2015, their space program sent the first manned mission to Mars in 2020. (Of course they did not invent anything new, they used existing patents, proven tech and well theorized ideas.)

Map shows the three space ports of the OLAS Space Agency. They are located along the equator to take full advantage of the easy launch window from that latitude. The central port is rumored to have a large hidden military base near it.

While OLAS was aiming at Mars, most other nations were working towards a moon base.

First Base is privet property
In fact Virgin Galactic, the corporation owned by eccentric billionaire Branson, actually started work back in 2013. As WW3 raged rich investors got on the wagon; the idea of escaping to the moon did not seem crazy. The base Branson built was impressive, but small. It was designed for maximum self sufficiency for 300 persons. Perhaps most importantly it was hidden on the dark side of the moon.

( no image available )

The Alpha story
In 2017 the European exploration team was sent to the moon, to confirm what probes had picked out as the best location. A year later, after dozens of unmanned cargo pods had been sent, the first construction team made the trip. Work would continue with rotating teams over the next year until Moon Base Alpha was complete in late 2019. Although the work was largely done by Europeans, the Base was intended to be open to all.

In connection with the Moon Base project was the development of the EAGEL space craft. A general purpose utility vehicle built for low gravity use only. It was never expected to land on Earth. Its central cargo pod was detachable, very much like a pace going 20 ft ISO shipping container.
EAGLE 1 is seen here on the landing pad ready for take off. The base had 5 pads, each with an underground hanger bay. Passengers generaly used the gantry, located at the left, while cargo was handled down below in the bay.
Replacement of the International Space Station
Although most attention was on the Luna project, two very important satellites were also under construction in the late 2010s. They were of similar design with a large rotating ring for artificial gravity and a central 0-G docking and cargo cylinder. ( rather like the station seen in the old film 2001 ) Here we see the unfinished station in earth orbit and the new passenger space plane, able to fly to the station with out the need of the massive booster rockets used by the old US space shuttle.

The Annular was located in low earth orbit, in 2018. Strangely it got the nick name “Satellite 5” and almost no one uses its real name today. The Equinox finished in 2021, was located at a Lagrange point opposite the Moon, so as to be in a high stable orbit around the earth.

The satellite building was mostly the work of a Russian – Japanese team, who used thruster technology discovered by the Macross Project, from the alien ship, to launch massive payloads into orbit. With conventional chemical rockets building a big station would have been mind numbingly expensive, if not impossible.

OLAS Mars Mission
After several probes were sent and a landing site selected, a large number of unmanned cargo pods were launched. They would contain habitat modules, equipment, and an emergency return vehicle. At the same time the sections of the Condor were sent into low Earth orbit and assembled there. In 2020 the Condor left Earth, caring a crew of 20 on the 55 million km trip to Mars, taking 274 days to reach the red planet.
The Condor is the first and last pure Human space craft to make an interplanetary trip. All later generation ships featured elements of alien tech and style. Notice the central ring for spin created gravity, the large fuel tank, the robotic arm and the solar panels. The landing craft, which docs at the front, is not seen here.
The OLAS mission set up a research outpost and utilities for later use. It did not establish a permanent colony. Although three scientists wanted to stay, they were convinced to come home just before the Condor departed, after its 120 day stay at Mars. The main dome is seen here with the landing craft in the foreground.

The Ship Yard.
Construction of Alpha-2, a yard for the building of space ships, was started in 2023. Although it was largely a European effort, it was intended for use by the UN-SDF. Not surprisingly it followed a similar style as the original Alpha base, which was 50km away. Once operational in 2026, the yard would construct large craft, able to move a thousand people or ten thousand tons of cargo. More critically it would build warships.

The view here shows the public landing pad. In the distance are the four main work areas.

The Dragon’s Turn
In 2023 China, after carefully studying the Mars mission and the Moon base construction, launched a boom of activity. It sent full construction teams to both Mars and the Moon, with equipment and supplies necessary for the construction of a ‘Stage 1’ base. A year later, when the first teams had come home, the colonists were sent out, including workers who would expand the facilities. By 2030 China had sizable bases on Mars and on the Moon; installations that are hardened with serious defensive fire power.
This is a plan of the 'Stage 1' Chinese Gamma type base. As part of the defenses most of it would be buried under a few feet of local dirt. ( weapons clusters are not shown here ) As part of 'Stage 2' a deep shaft would be drilled and more secure underground segments would be constructed.

Here is the Shenzhou Xian, the work horse of China’s space fleet. Although it uses spin gravity, many of its systems are derived from the Macross Project. Its Mark 2z ion drive enabled it to reach Mars in 140 days, with no worries about fuel consumption. After making several trips between Earth and Mars it was refitted for exploration of the outer solar system in 2028.

Race of red planet control
Not wanting to be overshadowed on Mars, OLAS pushed ahead with its colonization effort in 2025. While not as grand as China’s project, they were determined. OLAS sent a slow and steady stream of cargo pods, while personnel traveled on the Condor. Importantly, they included Europeans who wanted to go explore the red planet, while the Chinese did not. Because of a tragic romance story that happened during the construction of the new base, it was named Sara.

NASA (New American Space Agency) in action

In 2025 the USA, after much learning from the Macross Project, enters into a joint effort with Japan and Australia to assembled its first ship. They named it Enterprise and built it as a solar system exploration vessel. ( Note: we here refer to the USA with its capital in Hawaii, not the fragmented groupings of states on continental North America. They were systematically excluded from the Macross Project. )
Between 2025-27, there were nine of the Ringmaster type ships built, the first three being pure science craft, the next three being construction vessels and the last three being colonizers. The same basic hull was used, with its small spin gravity area. The major changes were to the central cargo carrying area. The mission of this fleet was to set up permanent observation outposts all over the solar system. Most would be unmanned, but a few key bases would crews of joint science and military specialists.

Perhaps even more impressive than the ships themselves was the orbiting yard used to build them. It was a huge open frame work that served as a base for the numerous robot arms that helped build the ships. After 2027, the yard was put open for leas; nations and corporations were encouraged to bid on its use. The winner of the first contract was SAMAC a company who wanted to mine asteroids for minerals not found on Earth. They had a ship very similar to the Ringmaster type built.

First of the Defenders
The UN-SDF main warship design - Spartan Class Destroyer

Although many details of this ship are top secret, it is known to be a combination of human-alien tech that does not rely overly on the ultra science that is available. In other words, a lot of it ( including the spin gravity central area ) is good old tried and proven solid state Earth invented. The UN-SDF claims that this choice of a sub optimal technology platform as its main warship will serve a critical first contact function; "It will make the aliens underestimate our abilities." The more logical argument for the design revolves around the crew skill sets that are needed.

( Note - no copy right violations or misrepresentation is intended. The images are used in the context of this RPG because they are cool and represent what I need. )

Anime 2030 Game Log

Week 1 – Day 1.

The Japanese school year begins in April, not in September like in the United States and other countries. Early April is also the time when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Like many schools, OEAOE has cherry trees growing on its grounds.

The first day of a new school year is always special, for new students even more so than for returning ones. Home room starts at 9am instead of the usual 8:30am, allowing for late arrivals and those who get lost. The home room teacher spends what is normally the first period giving the introduction lecture. In the case of returning students it is a less formal ‘welcome back’ speech and a general discussion of how people spent their March brake. ( Unlike most schools, the Academy links a class of students to the same home room teacher for their entire three years of study. Each year the teacher and students move up a floor to the next grade level. In this way the teacher may evaluate a student’s progress more accurately over time. )

In place of second period there is a general assembly in the large gym. The principal gives his welcome speech, then introduces key staff members and the student council members.

There is an early lunch brake, starting at 11am, instead of third period. As the new students are eating the clubs set up their recruitment booths in the central court yard. The club exhibition runs from11:30am to 1pm, then resumes after school is dismissed at 3pm.

In place of fourth and fifth periods there is a chance for students to visit the elective teachers.  ( Of the five periods per day four are required classes and one is elective. The required classes are; 1 hard science, 1 social science, 1 physical training, and 1 ‘required life skills’. The elective class is chosen from a list which includes the arts and the study of foreign things.  Everyone from a home room attends the same required classes; however elective classes tend to mix students. )

The Character Events  - Day 1

On this first day of school Sainen and his side kick Somni, the mute monk, showed up early to loiter around the front gate and watch students arrive. Kimi also arrived early, although her side kick Shin was no place to be seen. He was following orders from the shrine master not to let everyone know there was any connection between him and Kimi.

Although she was often slow to get going in the morning, today Aoki was up super early and made it to school shortly after they unlocked the doors. She went to the secretary hopping that the uniform in her size was ready, but was disappointed when told it would be another 3 days before it was in. As Aoki left the office she passed a giant of a girl, who was also in deed of a specially tailored uniform.

Anya arrived shortly before class was to start, parked her motorbike then went to see the secretary, hopping her uniform was ready. Unlike little Aoki, who was worried about the social consequences of not having a proper uniform, tall blond Anya just shrugged about it and went to class in her street clothes.

In the classroom there was the usual excited chatter of new students before the teacher arrived. Most of them were social enough, although a few sat quietly ignoring the world. Sainen though a card game would be a good way to brake the ice. He was quite surprised when a small girl, who looked like she should be in middle school, joined the game and played very well. Then in walked the Amazon. Everyone paid attention to her; tall and blond she must be an American, but she said “No – Im Canadian.”

By lunch time Anya and Aoki were hanging together like a very odd pair, with Sainen and Somni tagging along. They went to the Club exhibition together, split up to look at a few different booths, then regrouped at the Occult club. It was there that they ran into Kimi and Hadohi.

The Occult Club’s booth was run by Iada “Terra” Mitsumi – acting head of the club. She was in fact the only member left, after the rest of them disappeared while on an investigation a few weeks ago. Although she wants to find out what happened, she is hesitant to put anyone at risk. So her recruitment is more like a warning “Occult stuff is real and can be dangerous.”

Of course all the new students don’t just devote themselves to a single club. Anya joins the Gun Club, Kimi joins the Light Music Club, and Hadohi takes a few shifts of work per week at the student café.

Note: The school has a cafeteria on the main level that serves cheep mass meals. It also has a student run food court “the café” located on the fourth floor, which serves a wide range of usually better and more expensive meals.

The first day ends with a crowd gathered in the central court yard to watch a fight. Kenji Harima – biggest delinquent at school, takes on the new tough guy – wannabe. After several minutes of brawling, Kenji delivers the final ass kicking.

Week 1 - Day 2

Students must submit their request forms for elective classes, every once must chose a primary and secondary, in case the primary if full. By the end of the week those classes will start, in the mean time everyone has a free period some time during the day.

Anya joins Miss Siam’s combat class. Aoki joins Professor Snape’s mythology class, but a computer “error” places her into his more advanced Magic 303 class. Both Kimi and Sainen join Coach Togo’s advanced fitness class. Hadohi takes the cooking class, with Doctor Watt filling in for the usual home-economics teacher, who is out on maternity leave.

At the Occult club, the new members talk with Terra about what the club normally does. Of course the subject of the missing members and the case they were working on comes up. She tells the group that Professor Snape ( the club’s advisor ) has forbidden any investigation into such a dangerous matter, until later. So the group considers what paranormal things it may took into.

Sunday 3 February 2013

Ivan's Gun Shop

Excellent-Russia Inc. ( a Canadian corporation ) owned and operated by Ivan Rodchenko, was granted a permit to open a location in Osaka, Japan in 2030. The company has a license to sell paint-ball and air-soft equipment and replica-toy guns. It also has a license to own and review real fire arms (but not to sell them). Testing of weapons is conducted at the Military Academy target range according to a rental agreement.

Below is Crazy Ivan's Gun Shop, located in the Kishiwada ward of Osaka, near the waterfront.
The first floor includes the display-shop, storage areas and work-shop. There is a small 20ft back yard.  Security systems are tight, using both high-tech and good old iron bars. Ivan usually works the shop alone, but has posted a wanted notice for a part time student clerk.
The second floor includes the offices, and a net-cast recording studio. The nook with balcony access is a causal meeting lounge. There is a hidden storage room for the real weapons. The large front office is mostly used by Ivan's assistant ( a grumpy old Japanese man, who is an expert in administration ) The reception office is a decorative front for formal meetings. There is no regular Secretary.

The third floor is the apartment area, with a small balcony. Ivan and his daughter Anya live here.

Note;
The RPG character Ivan Rodchenko is based on the FPS Russia character from you-tube. ( Don't bring reality into this, its just a game, and in the game he IS a Russian who did gun reviews ) also Ivan is a character from the WSHTF RPG played in 2012.
"Have a nice Day"
