Week 2 – Day 1
Monday
morning Anya finds Sainen before class starts and confronts him about how he is
not a team player. He says “The club isn’t really a team, yet” She argues “If
everyone acts like you just did, we will never become a team.” To settle the
matter she challenges him to a target shoot at the range after school.
As the day
goes on, the rumor about the challenge circulates. By the time Anya and Sainen
arrive at the range, there is quite a crowd gathered to watch. A lot of guys
are there to cheer for the tall blond Amazon. ( Although she does not know it
yet, Anya has a fan club ) The contest is judged by the Gun Club’s VP. It is
close but the match goes to Anya.
Meanwhile
Terra is alone in the Occult club room, wondering where everyone is. Just as
she is about to go home, the group arrives. They are in high spirits and plan
to go to the local mall. Terra thinks it’s a great idea for the group to get to
know each other better, but she has work to do.
At the mall
everyone has fun, window shopping and playing games in the arcade. It is the
first time for both Anya and Sainen being in a mall. Anya coming from a small
rural Canadian village has no real experience with giant shopping centers.
Sainen on the other hand had been living under a monastery and never had cause
to visit a mall.
As the
group was walking to the food court, it happened. The attempted assassination
of Ellsa “Foxtrot” Kumiyagi – captain of the school’s Red Team in paintball. A
man with a pistol tried to shoot her in the back of the head, as another man
with an SMG backed him up. Things got very messy, very fast.
Ellsa
narrowly avoided getting her head blown off, then returned fire from the floor.
Anya drew
her pistol and tried to disarm the gun-man, but the crowd of people was just
starting to react. Their erratic movements ruined her shot.
Sainen took
a second to coordinate with his sidekick Somni. The monk would jump around
healing people as needed. Sainen would try to take down a bad guy with a good
old flying tackle. ( The high-tech suit he had on under his school clothes,
gave him an edge in combat but it was no true battle-suit )
Kimi and
Shine, with no real fighting skills, did the smart thing and ran for a hiding
spot.
Aoki used
one of her powers to send a chair flying at the guy with the SMG.
Hadohi
ducked under a table and pulled out her phone, to start recording the fight.
Most of the
bad guys were killed by Ellsa, who took head shots.
Anya shot
one of the gun-men several times, but he did not go down thanks to his armor.
Hadohi
first tried to burn one guy with her powers, then after setting a wall on fire,
she used her ice ability to freeze him.
Kimi and
Shine noticed that there were suspicious looking men covering the exits, as
they ran into one of the shops to hide. The entire event was starting to look
like a very well organized hit.
Sainen
scuffled with and knocked out the frozen gun-man. Who turned out to be the only
bad guy captured alive in the entire event.
Aoki having
spotted a suspicious guy in the crowd of terrified by standers; hit him with a
chair. She then tied him up, once all the shooting had stopped. ( However the
police let him go because there was no connection found between him and the incident
– he seemed to them to be just another innocent by-stander. )
The entire
fight only took about 30 seconds, but it seemed a lot longer. The mall security
guards, who were armed only with batons and tazer-guns, started reacting after
the first few shots, but they quickly dove for cover after a burst of auto-fire
was sent in their direction. The other security guards, on the upper levels,
did not enter into the situation until the fighting was all done.
The police
arrived several minutes after everything was over and the heroes had run off.
Sainen had asked Ed to delete the security camera footage of the event. But
there were still dozens of eye witnesses who saw everything happen.
Ellsa stayed
behind to talk with the police, because she was already well known to them and
because she had been the real target of the attack. She strongly suspected that
the gun-men were from the Ren-Raku Corporation.
Week 2 – Day 2
During home
room, our heroes are told that they must report to the Principal’s office as
soon as the lunch brake starts. The teacher makes no mention about yesterday’s
mall madness, but the rumors are flying.
Principle Ozen
demands to know exactly what happened at the mall. He does not tell the
students how much he actually knows about the events. He lets them explain
things as if he knew none of the details. For the most part Sainen does the
talking.
After a
brief lecture on responsibility, the Principle assigns the group to detention
that afternoon. The teacher in charge of the afterschool discipline for the
group is of course Miss Saim, the chief weapons instructor.
Unlike some
schools where detention is a matter of sitting quietly and counting out the
time until freedom, at OEAOE the time is put to more constructive use. In this
case, Miss Saim reviews the entire battle, step by step, on a map of the mall.
She points out in brutal honesty what the group did right and what they did
wrong.
“Everything
is a learning experience, but when you are using live ammo in a crowd of
civilians, you can’t afford to make mistakes.” She stresses the point several
times.
